- I had extreme life circumstances that prevented me from working, so I put a fake job entry on my resume to fill the gap for the past 3 years. I used my friend as a reference (he works where I claim to work) and I got the job.

I see nothing wrong with what you did. Do never breath a word to a soul about what you did and be nothing but pleasant and helpful to everyone you work with. You don't want to get anyone's hackles up that they might go snooping into your PI.
And if I were you, I wouldn't stay at this place very long, esp if it's corporate. If it's mom n pop and you are a good worker bee I'm sure they would over look it on the odd chance they found out you padded.

- I've lied on my resume. I've padded job descriptions, changed employment dates, and more. I've lied so much on my resume that I barely know what the truth is anymore. I have to keep older copies of my resumes so I can go back and see what I really did at some point in time.
I am a very experienced IT worker and a CCNA, mainly in desktop support, but with bits of data center and networking thrown in.
I have lied for the purpose of getting better jobs. Better jobs that I have studied and trained for, but have not been selected for, despite a half dozen interviews over the past 6 months at different places. Those fuckers.
My local city seems to do a lot of IT contract hiring, but not much actual full time hiring.
Some people say "Dress for the job you want, not the job you have". I pretend to be what I want to be, so I can one day be what I want to be for real. - View reply #
